Best Post Cardio Meal: What To Eat After Cardio
What are the best foods to eat after cardio workouts? Are there any specific post cardio nutrition guidelines you should be following for the best results?
When it all comes down to it, this really just isn’t something that you need to concern yourself with. Proper fat burning nutrition is all about the big picture, and trying to structure the “perfect” post cardio meal just isn’t worth your efforts.
First off, as long as you consumed some protein and carbs within a couple hours of your cardio session, those same nutrients are still being broken down and absorbed even after your workout is over. For that reason, there’s no need to go immediately slam whey protein after cardio or mix up some “fast absorbing” post cardio smoothie.
Secondly, many people claim that you need carbohydrates immediately after cardio in order to replenish glycogen levels. One single cardio workout is not going to drain your glycogen levels to any significant degree, and structuring your post cardio nutrition with this goal in mind just isn’t necessary.
At the end of the day, the issue of what to eat after cardio just comes down to personal preference, and there is no such thing as one single “best meal after cardio”.
Simply perform your cardio workout, and then consume your post cardio meal containing whatever sources of protein and carbohydrates you prefer. If you want to consume a post cardio shake that’s fine, or if you’d rather have a whole food post cardio meal that’s completely fine too.
In addition, don’t stress out about the timing of what you eat after cardio either. Just consume your meal whenever you most prefer as the specific timing is not going to make any measurable impact at the end of the day.
